Conduct of Club Championship Pairs Competition.
1. General. The competition will be played on the
second Thursday of each month from
January to October inclusive. In the
event that play is not possible on one of the specified dates the Committee may
either:
a. Reschedule the competition for another date in which case a
minimum of 7 days notice must be given
or
b. Declare that stage of the competition to have lapsed.
2. Method of Play.
Where there are 12 or fewer
tables a Howell movement shall be played. For more than 13 tables an Eddy Appendix
Mitchell movement shall be played.
An Arrow Switch will be used
where there are between 13 and 16 tables and it will be played on the first TWO
rounds of the evening. When there are more than 16 tables there will be 2
winners for that evening and no Arrow Switches in order to comply with the EBU
80% rule. For arrow switched rounds
pairs will occupy their normal seating positions with the arrow pointing to
East and North will check and initial the traveller. For all other rounds East will check and
initial the traveller. Correct scoring
on the traveler is essential, especially during “arrow switched” hands. The
committee reserves the right to penalise both pairs where an erroneous score is
detected.
3. Duration. Unless there are compelling circumstances all
rounds of the Competition are to be played.
4. Scoring. For each
tournament Pairs shall be ordered for position on the basis of percentage
scores achieved. The best 6 results per pair will be used to calculate the winners.
6. Trophy. The winning
pair shall be awarded and retain the Championship Trophy for a period of one
year.
